Update on the North Amherst Planning Committee
DONA established an ad hoc Planning Committee of North Amherst neighbors with a wide range of professional experience and knowledge of the neighborhood. That Committee is developing a set of recommendations for new development in North Amherst, that will include development and construction considerations regarding:
- Safety: Traffic, streets, sidewalks
- Environment including open space/biodiversity, wet lands
- Farming; contribution to self-sufficiency
- Historic preservation and architectural integrity
- Commerce and retail: services people want, arts, retail and service diversity
- Quality of life: neighborhoods, services for children, integration of renters into the community, politically active
Once the plan is completed we will convene several zoom community meetings to get feedback and changes to the plan.
